My latest post has won an award

I hope all my readers enjoyed my latest opus "I want Jack Layton to step down while the RCMP investigates his moustache."

I've just found out that this post has won an award. It's called the "Erik Sorenson hates it so I must be doing something right." award. It's very prestigious.

I routinely check the incoming links to my blog just so I can see where my hits come from. I noticed a link and followed it and it was an NDipper panning my post, so I checked out the comments and here is Erik Sorenson loathing my post. I've seen Erik around before, he loves to post his "I know everything" rants around some of my favorite blogs, and when a man of this utter ignorance hates you, you simply must be doing something right. I must also congratulate my esteemed colleague "The Sir Robert Bond Papers" as he also won an award.

Here's the speech he gave on announcing my prize, with my (commentary added):

L4L is only a Liberal sniper. (I actually play Battlefield 1942 and I'm a pretty decent sniper, I'm really good with the M1 Garand.) He gleefully erases any dissenting comments input on his blog. (See, I hate to nitpick Erik, but I don't "erase" them, I "rejected" them) Just another immature child. (Well, he's 64, so I guess everyone under 50 is a child to him I'm 26 by the way, I imagine if he had his way you'd have to be 40 to vote, those damn whipper snappers!)

Sir Robert Bond Papers, despite it's prententious (I think it’s funny him pretending to be all learned and he spells pretentious incorrectly.) name, is a rag and another of the Liberal sniping crew. (Snipers actually do work in crews of two sometimes, one of them spots the targets while the other takes the shot. We don't do that in Battlefield 1942, but I wish we did.) He doesn't even allow comments. (I can't imagine why, with scintillating things like this who say who wouldn't want to hear it?) Should be categorized as a small-minded Liberal self-gratification advocacy site. (self-gratification? I didn't notice any pics of Lindsay Lohan, but I'll have to check again....)

Both show a self-love, "legend in their own mind" (No, no, no, I go with the Tupac version "Legend in my own rhyme.") type of mentality, combined with slavish devotion to Captain Chicken. (This is classic, I looked on his site and that's his nickname for Martin, I mean really could you come up with a more moronic nickname? I suppose you could call him "Erik.") They are both part of the Chicken Crew (Wait now your confusing me, I thought I was part of the sniping crew.) ... echoing their leader's cry that anyone raising a contrary view is "unfit". (Contrary, no. Ultra far right in a country populated by a vast majority of slightly right to moderate left citizens, yes.)

Almost in the same league, only I call them drive-by Liberals, (Ok, so let me write this down, I'm a Sniper, a Captain Chicken crew member, well that makes sense because I'd have to be under some sort of command structure were I a sniper, and a drive-by Liberal. But if I'm a sniper how can I be a drive by Liberal? See a sniper shoots from far away under concealment whereas a drive by shooter gets right up close in a car and shoots. I'll have to ask for clarification.) are the Liberal blogs that only allow comments from folks who have a Blogger account. (Yup, we all know how much the Conservative voters loathe elitist clubs, he says he's not a Conservative like I say I'm a size 4.) This effectively makes 99.99999% (As I said I checked out his site and he loves using this 99.99999999999999999999infinity bullshit. I guess it presents the illusion he can add.) of Canadians ineligible to post any view, pro or con, on their blogs ... since this percentage of Canadians doesn't have a Blogger account. (And as we all know Blogger accounts are impossible to get, I had to kill a monkey with a monkey wrench while singing a song by the monkeys just to get mine. The guy who gave it to me was on a monkey kick that week.)

I guess it speaks volumes about the immaturity and lack of confidence, (If I lacked confidence I wouldn't post at all, I just got sick of assholes like this wizard posting things like YOU SUCK AND CONSERVATIVES R00L WE P0WNZ0RED J00 C0Z WE R L33T!!!11!1!!1!!) not to mention conviction, of these bloggers. And also is telling about the positions they advance for self-gratification. (I couldn't find and Lindsay pics, you lying bastard.)

Soak it up, guys and gals. And may your personal growth and maturity remain stunted. (My personal growth depends on keeping Stephen Harper, a man who thinks human rights are great except if he doesn't like the humans in question, out of 24 Sussex. How can I grow in a country run by Stephen Harper, a man who is farther right than George W. Bush? How could I not be ashamed to be a Canadian with a scum sucker like that running my country?)

I'd like to thank the acadamy, my Cat, my producer, my editor, my director, my wife Lisa: WE DID IT BABY!!!!!!!!!!

I want Jack Layton to step down while the RCMP investigates his moustache

That's about as stupid an idea as asking Ralph Goodale to step down while the income trust affair is being investigated. Of course that's the way the opposition likes to do things, Guilty until proven innocent.

I should call up the RCMP under the false name Miguel Sanchez and tell them Stephen Harper and Monte Solberg have been running drugs for years. Then by their own logic they'd be forced to step down while the investigation takes place.

Please Canadians: buy a clue and vote the Liberals back to majority!

Fun with Photoshop: Part 2

I was inspired to do this pic by some Con hack on a board I frequent getting pissed that people were talking about Stephen Harper's obvious hidden social agenda:

Give us a break! It's obvious they have been victimized by the Liberal Party of Canada Spindinks. What next, the world coming to an end? These people need to get their heads out of their %^$, educate themselves, look @ the Conservative Party of Canada platform and make a decision based on facts not fiction.

So I decided to illustrate that the platform he reads like the bible (Classic sarcasm -Ed.) is in fact fiction.

Merry Christmas to all

Merry Christmas everyone, and be safe this holiday season.

Why is this so hard?

Human beings (a.k.a. the current Homo Sapien variety) have been walking the earth for about 200,000 years give or take a day. And in all that time we seem to just be the slowest, most stubborn species imaginable when it comes to social evolution. Here we are 200 millenia removed from the first of us walking the face of this planet and there are still a large group of us in the civilized world that feel that some of us aren't equal to others, at least as far as rights go.

Why do we find it so hard to accept these seemingly basic concepts? I know Conservatives and their supporters rationalize this by saying "Oh we can let them have civil unions." civil unions are not marriage, they're civil unions. If civil unions were marriage they wouldn't be called civil unions they'd be called marriage.

Even better news!

I've been informed by some wingnuts Conservative Supporters that Sheila Copps is no longer in fact a member of the Liberal party.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Now, I know your intent was to shame me in to admitting I was wrong, but I have to genuinly thank you. You've made my freakin day! Hopefully she'll be banned for life from the party.

Copps Down, now if we can just get rid of Harper this country will finally be out of this dark hole it's been in since the right united and people fell for the name change. As if I changed my name to Conservative for Life (*Shudder* -Ed.) Connie supporters would suddenly embrace me with open arms. The whole name change thing reminds me of a skit I saw on Saturday Night Live one time with Teri Hatcher. (At the time she was playing Lois Lane on Lois and Clark) And one of the SNL cast would come out and talk to her and then put glasses on (A La Clark Kent) and she wouldn't recognize them. That's the level of intelligence we're dealing with here people.

On another matter:

I'd like to thank all of you Wingnuts Conservative supporters who take their sweet time and write a nice long attack comment to any of my posts. The longer it is, the more enjoyable it is for me to delete it.

So I want to encourage all of you far-righties to take your sweet ass time. I mean really take your time, go over your comment with a fine tooth comb. Make sure you're grammar is flawless and your punctuation is perfect, make sure you've dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's just so I can truly appreciate all the hard work that went in to it before I click the delete button.

Of course anyone who wants to leave an intelligent comment please feel free, I don't delete those.

Sheila Copps Makes Me Sick

How the Hell is Sheila Copps still a member of the Liberal party? That's what I want to know. I've got a copy of a sign up form to join the party and it says right on it:

I CERTIFY THAT I AM NOT A MEMBER OF ANOTHER POLITICAL PARTY, I SUPPORT THE PRINCIPALS OF THE LIBERAL PARTY.

How the Hell can you support the principals of the the Liberal party when you're currently trying to defeat one of its Cabinet Ministers? Am I missing something here?!? She needs to be thrown out the party. I mean my God I have issues with the party too but that doesn't mean I go out and support the far righters or the far lefties.

The sad thing is there are probably Liberals out there that will still support piece of human garbage. Hey! YOU LOST! deal with it!

On Hiatus

Just to let everyone know now that Christmas is approaching fast and New Years Eve not long after Liberal for Life is going to be taking a much deserved rest. Those of you used to seeing me post 5 or 6 times a day will just have to live with the other lower quality blogs out there. ;)

Seriously though, this isn't to say I'll be shut down completely, I'll still be doing the Days won (Except for the days no campaigning is done of course) And I might pop in to post something I see that's interesting, but until the new year it's going to be pretty slow.

Harper accuses Liberals of being pro PQ

Stephen Harper's Quebec strategy leaves much to be desired, which of course delights me.

First he announces that he wants to let Quebec have a larger role when it comes to international negotiations. This is a slippery slope and will only embolden the Soveriengtists.

Now, I'd like to make a reference to the past to illustrate my point. It involves Hitler and there seems to be a view that any argument involving him should automatically be discounted. I'm of the belief in that old saying "Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it." I also want to make clearn I'm not calling anyone Nazis.

That being said, in the build up to World War II Joseph P. Kennedy, father of the future President John F. Kennedy, rejected the warnings by Winston Churchill that Nazi Germany posed a looming threat, and supported Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain's policy of appeasement. Appeasement only makes the aggressor more aggressive. If the Seperatists see that they can push Harper around they will keep pushing, which would be bad for the rest of Canada. And without a strong Federalist leader the country is doomed.

Secondly, yesterday he accuses the Liberals of being pro Parti Quebecois, saying that we want them to win the next election so that we can be seen as the saivors of Canada. Nothing is further from the truth, which is why we're starting the fight with them now so that when the next provincial election comes they won't have a big head start. The more Bloc MPs in Quebec the higher the profile of their cause. It's so simple a child could understand it, and anyone who seriously looks at Harper's Quebec policy should cringe with fear at the prospect of him becoming Prime Minister.

Robbins SCE at it again

If any of you have read my blog since the beginning you'll remember a story I latched on to a while back about Anti-Liberal "pollster" Robbins SCE.

It seems my good friend Jason Cherniak has also discovered this fraudulent pollster.

If nothing else, all you need to know about the guy that runs this polling firm is he said this to a blogger who questioned his polling:

I say you don't have the gonads to do it, because cowards like you who will never amount to anything, sit around and send out meaningless blogs. The right and proper thing for you to do and (think seriously about this) you know its true, is to rid the earth of yourself, because (and look at what you are writing) you are truly a waste of good skin that might otherwise be made available to another, or perhaps a jacket for a more worthy citizen.

Fun with Photoshop, election style

I saw this pic on cbc.ca and just couldn't resist giving it a little retouch. Don't worry Connies, I'm not saying your leader is a terrorist or anything, it's just a joke.

Day 20 Winners:

The Liberals.

Why? Because Jack Layton attacked Stephen Harper yesterday.

I can see you shaking your head saying "What the heck does that have to do with the Liberals?" The answer is simple, last election the NDP lost support because Canadians were (understandably) terrified by the prospect of a Conservative government. So this time around Layton's mission has been to not try to go too hard at Harper, because he knows if Canadians aren't fooled by Harper's BS they'll flock to the Liberals. So he and Harper have been best buds lately, with both sides even hinting at cooperation in a possible minority situation. This attack is the last thing Layton needs to be doing.

A Horrible Day - Goodbye Leo

With all the election buzz I haven't been paying attention to the rest of the world lately, and it is with sadness I can't even begin to describe that I learned of the December 16th Death of John Spencer, who was better known as Leo McGarry on TV's The West Wing, one of my favorite shows of all time. He was 58

From CNN.com:

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- John Spencer, who played a tough and dedicated politico on "The West Wing" who survived a serious illness to run for vice president, died of a heart attack Friday. He was 58.

Spencer died after being admitted to a Los Angeles hospital during the night, said his publicist, Ron Hofmann. He would have been 59 on Tuesday.

He was "one of those rare combinations of divinely gifted and incredibly generous," said Richard Schiff, who plays Toby Ziegler on the NBC series.

"There are very few personal treasures that you put in your knapsack to carry with you for the rest of your life, and he's one of those," Schiff said. He said Spencer had been struggling with health issues but seemed to have rebounded.

Spencer played Leo McGarry, the savvy and powerful chief of staff to President Josiah "Jed" Bartlet (Martin Sheen). In a sad parallel to life, Spencer's character suffered a heart attack that forced him to give up his White House job.

McGarry recovered and was picked as a running mate for Democratic presidential contender Matt Santos, played by Jimmy Smits; the campaign against Republican Arnold Vinick (Alan Alda) has been a central theme for the drama this season.

"John was an uncommonly good man, an exceptional role model and a brilliant actor," said Aaron Sorkin, who created the series, and Tommy Schlamme, one of the original executive producers, in a joint statement.

"We feel privileged to have known him and worked with him. He'll be missed and remembered every day by his many, many friends," they said.

Actress Allison Janney -- C.J. Cregg on the series -- described Spencer as a consummate professional actor. "Everyone adored him," she said.

"We have all lost a dear, dear brother," said Bradley Whitford, who plays Josh Lyman.

NBC and producer Warner Bros. Television praised Spencer's talent but did not address how his death would affect the Emmy Award-winning series, in production on its seventh season.

Spencer, who also starred on "L.A. Law" as attorney Tommy Mullaney, received an Emmy Award for his performance on "The West Wing" in 2002 and was nominated four other times for the series.

The actor, whose world-weary countenance was perfect for the role of McGarry, mirrored his character in several ways: Both were recovering alcoholics and both, Spencer once said, were driven.

"Like Leo, I've always been a workaholic, too," he told The Associated Press in a 2000 interview. "Through good times and bad, acting has been my escape, my joy, my nourishment. The drug for me, even better than alcohol, was acting."

Spencer grew up in Paterson, New Jersey, the son of blue-collar parents. With his enrollment at the Professional Children's School in Manhattan at age 16, he was sharing classes with the likes of Liza Minnelli and budding violinist Pinchas Zukerman.

As a teenager, he landed a recurring role on "The Patty Duke Show" as the boyfriend of English twin Cathy. Stage and film work followed.

Then his big break: playing Harrison Ford's detective sidekick in the 1990 courtroom thriller "Presumed Innocent." That role led to his hiring for the final four years of "L.A. Law."

Spencer played a streetwise lawyer on the David E. Kelley drama that was in sharp contrast to the show's otherwise glamorous cast and setting.

After attending the Manhattan performing arts school, Spencer studied at Fairleigh Dickenson University. He then began working on stage in New York and in regional theaters, in plays including David Mamet's "Lakeboat" and Tennessee Williams' "The Glass Menagerie."

Spencer won an Obie Award for the 1981 off-Broadway production of "Still Life," about a Vietnam veteran, and received a Drama Desk nomination for "The Day Room."

His made his feature film debut with a small role in "War Games," which was followed by roles in "Sea of Love" and "Black Rain." Spencer said his work in "Presumed Innocent" represented a "watershed role."

In recent years, he worked both in studio and independent films, including "The Rock," "The Negotiator," "Albino Alligator," "Lesser Prophets," "Twilight" and "Cold Heart."

Spencer, an only child, is survived by "cousins, aunts, uncles, and wonderful friends," Hofmann said.

At a time like this there's not much you can really do other than pay homage to the dead. I hope you don't mind, I'd like to relive some of my favorite "Leo" moments here:

My absolute favorite:

LEO
I know the President’s been joking around all day. But he’s been living and dying with
this every hour, and I know he’d be really offended if he knew that you were discussing
a political upside. And I gotta tell you, Josh, as a guy who flew planes in the war,
I was really offended, too.

JOSH
Yes, sir.

LEO
Okay.

JOSH
Okay.

LEO
Now, you did good today. I’m just saying that there’s a way to be a person.

JOSH
I apologize.

LEO
Your apology’s accepted.

Leo semi-reaches out, Josh moves in for a hug.

LEO
[stopping him] What are you doing?

JOSH
It looked like you wanted to hug me.

Leo Smiles

LEO
Oh, man, did you read that wrong.

JOSH
Okay.

Other great Quotes:

"There are two things you never want to let people see how you make 'em: laws and sausages."

"This guy's walking down the street when he falls in a hole. The walls are so steep he can't get out. A doctor passes by and the guy shouts up, 'Hey you. Can you help me out?' The doctor writes a prescription, throws it down in the hole and moves on. Then a priest comes along and the guy shouts up, 'Father, I'm down in this hole can you help me out?' The priest writes out a prayer, throws it down in the hole and moves on. Then a friend walks by, 'Hey, Joe, it's me can you help me out?' And the friend jumps in the hole. Our guy says, 'Are you stupid? Now we're both down here.' The friend says, 'Yeah, but I've been down here before and I know the way out.' "

"We're the only super power left you can conquer the world like Charlemagne. But you better be prepared to kill everyone and you better start with me, 'cause I will raise up an army against you."

"If you ever told me to get aggressive about anything, I'd say I serve at the pleasure of the president."

"If we're going to walk into walls I want us running into them full speed. We're going to lose some of these battles, and we might even lose the White House, but we're not going to be threatened by issues. We're going to bring 'em front and center. We're going to raise the level of public debate in this country, and let that be our legacy."

"The year is one week old, the legislative session hasn't even begun and we can't put a forkful of waffles in our mouth without coughing up the ball."

"I didn't think the Washington Times could spell all those words."

"You think I'm so desperate to save my ass I'm gonna roll over on Jed Bartlet? I take a bullet for the president, he doesn't take one for me."

Rest in Peace John, you were a great man and I'll never forget the character that you portrayed so well.

THANK YOU GOD!!!!!!!!

If I may go a little off topic here.

Thank God for the San Diego Chargers! They beat the team I hate the most in all of sports: The Indianapolis Dolts Colts ending any hope they had of an undefeated season. I hate the Colts, their fans are the most 2nd most ignorant group of people I know (The 1st being the Far-Right Crowd)

Also yesterday my Mighty New England Patriots clinched the AFC East with a 28-0 Ass kicking of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. We've given up 10 points in the last 3 GAMES! In the immortal words of Tom Brady: WE'RE BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!

It'd be nice if we could meet the Colts in the post season and end their season for the third year in a row.

New "Days Won" Feature

If you'll notice in the left column there is now a picture showing who has won each of the days in the election. I'll still post my reasons and the day's winner and the totals, but this feature will replace the days list at the bottom of those posts. I realized early on with a campaign over 50 days that it'd get real crowded there toward the end, so this addresses that problem.

Cheers

A Picture Really Is Worth a Thousand Words

Day 19 Winners:

This was a tough one between the Liberals and the NDP, with Martin getting out there and really hammering Harper and Layton getting out and really hammering Martin. However I think Layton finally doing something in this campaign is a special enough occurrence to warrant the nod.

I simply HAD to post this

I'm reading the CBC website and there's a story on Jack Layton (Or as I Call him "Stash" -Ed.) attacking the Liberals for the 4 billionth time.

And he says Paul Martin is "a broken record who has a broken record." which I thought was hilarious when you consider how many times in each debate he said "Elect more New Democrats"

Day 18 Winners:

The Liberals.

Martin had the best debate of any of the four leaders. He had the best moment, (The attack on Duceppe when he mentions his kids) The best rebuttal, (When he shot down Layton's idiotic corporate tax cut line) and the most effective attack. (The Stephen Harper Notwithstanding Clause)

The only other leader to have such a good moment was when Harper got that softball question on the GST. Martin has the better policy but he looked unprepared on that one.

Layton said "Elect more New Democrats" so many times I started a drinking game halfway through taking a small sip whenever he said it and was hammered by the end. He sounded desperate.

Martin won this debate, and he also beat expectations. The Unity answer was enough to win it for him, but he also had other good moments as well.

Day 17 Winners:

The Liberals.

I can see Conservative supporters rolling their eyes right about now, but I've given you guys 7 days so cut me some slack!

The reason I pick the Liberals is because of the nature of debates. Ask anyone who knows a lot about debates and they will tell you they are all about expectations. Much was expected of Duceppe and although he clearly won the debate he seemed nervous at the beginning of the debate, as was noticed by many pundits. Therefore although he won, he didn't meet expectations. Not much was expected of Harper and he delivered on that, Layton a little more was expected and he delievered on that. Martin had high expectations as well, not as high as Duceppe's but high.

Now, obviously I can not be entirely objective on this because his message is obviously going to resonate with me more than any of the other leaders, so I listened to pundits and most agree that Martin was a pleasant suprise, and that he seemed energized and passionate. Therefore he is the only leader that beat expectations. Ergo the day goes to his party.

Quebec Liberal Memo Standard Campaign Procedure

A memo about Liberal party fortunes in Quebec was accidentally leaked yesterday, causing a lot of fuss.

Here's the thing: All the parties do it.

As evidenced by my December 1 article Conservative Ontario Targets Signal Poor Strategy. In this article and in a linked story from the London Free Press it shows the Conservatives are focusing their hopes on 20 ridings in Ontario, on top of the 23 they have there currently.

It's simple numbers:
The Liberal memo says they have a chance to win 30 of Quebec's 75 seats or %40
The Conservatives are focusing on 43 of Ontario's 106 seats or %40.5

I guess that %0.5 means the Liberals are in real trouble.

Fact is this story is much ado about nothing, all the parties take stock of what seats they should focus their efforts on and which they need to be worried about. It makes as much sense for the Liberals to pour resources in to Laurier Sainte-Marie as it does for the Conservatives to pour resources in to Toronto Danforth. It's called Realism, Realism. Non pervasive element in today's modern American cinematic vision. (Classic John Travolta Swordfish Quote -Ed.)

Then there is the argument that says "Oh but the memo says 3 cabinet ministers are in trouble." Yes, and? Everyone already knew that, what's the big story? There are a few high profile Conservatives who are in trouble as well. The best known probably being Helena Guergis, and they've already lost their "Surruptitious Audio Taping Critic" Gurmant Grewal.

Day 16 Winners:

The Liberals.

It was a close one up until the very end of the day, but then the Stephen Harper speech surfaced early and that was that. Also the Conservative attempts to try to distance themselves from the US administration came off as looking desperate.

Will the Real Stephen Harper Please Stand Up?

As I’ve literally been saying for weeks now, when you have strongly held beliefs it is virutally impossible to change them.

I believe that all people are equal, and the only thing that differentiates them are their actions. I can’t imagine myself ever changing that belief.

In the same sense Stephen Harper has many beliefs that are contrary to my own. That’s fine, he’s entitled to have them, but now he’s trying to hide them from Canadians so that he can obtain power, and if he were to obtain a majority there would be nothing we could do to stop him.

As I’m sure you are aware, there is an old speech now circulating that drives my point home flush. Here is the original; I’ve clipped some of the “highlights” if you can call them that, just to share with you.

This, by far, is my absolute personal favorite. It’s so perfect in describing the current Conservative party.

But even when parties come back, they're not really new. They're just an older party re-appearing under a different name and different circumstances.

But the Reform party only exists federally. It doesn't exist at the provincial level here in Canada. It really exists only because Mr. Manning is pursuing the position of prime minister. It doesn't have a broader political mandate than that.

Replace “Manning” with “Harper” and “Reform” with “Conservative” and we’ve got ourselves a current statement.

Your country (The United States) and particularly your conservative movement, is a light and an inspiration to people in this country and across the world.

if you're like all Americans, you know almost nothing except for your own country. Which makes you probably knowledgeable about one more country than most Canadians.

Canada is a Northern European welfare state in the worst sense of the term, and very proud of it.

In terms of the unemployed, of which we have over a million-and-a-half, don't feel particularly bad for many of these people. They don't feel bad about it themselves, as long as they're receiving generous social assistance and unemployment insurance.

The NDP is kind of proof that the Devil lives and interferes in the affairs of men.

It's (The Liberal Party) put sexual orientation in the Human Rights Act and will let the courts do the rest.

The leadership of the Conservative party was running the largest deficits in Canadian history.

It (The Reform Party) also has some Buchananist (Pat Buchanan) tendencies.

It's (The Reform Party) also the most conservative socially.

Last year, when we had the Liberal government putting the protection of sexual orientation in our Human Rights Act, the Reform Party was opposed to that.

They're (The Atlantic Provinces) weak economically. They have very grim prospects if Quebec separates.

The Reform party is very much a modern manifestation of the Republican movement.

Its (The NDP’s) main concern, of course, is simply the left-wing agenda to basically disintegrate our society in all kinds of spectrums.

The establishment came down with a constitutional package which they put to a national referendum. The package included distinct society status for Quebec and some other changes, including some that would just horrify you, putting universal Medicare in our constitution, and feminist rights, and a whole bunch of other things.

I know what he's saying there, those lousy feminists, always wanting rights! Rights are over rated anyway, who needs them?

And They Chastized us for Using Liberals in OUR Commercials...

A story you probably won't read about on Warren Kinsella's Blog has emerged from Liberal Quasi-Blogger Scott Feschuk. It comes from an unnamed actor who was recently in a Conservative Campaign Commercial:

"I wanted to tell you about this thing that happened to me. My agent sent me to audition for this thing, something political was all we were told. When I showed up they were calling the thing Project X. I read some lines and supposedly did not get the part I went out for. My agent was called to ask if I would be an extra in the commercial; we respectfully declined. An hour later I get a call saying that the casting agent really wants me in this thing and would I be an extra for double the money if they promise to have me out in less than 2 hours. I said okay. On the shoot day, still not knowing what this is a commercial for, I show up and there is a lady waiting outside for me. I'm not late or anything and I'm supposed to just be an extra in this thing so I'm a little weirded out when as I approach this woman is like, Great! You're here! And she takes me inside where everyone and everything is already set. All the extras are in place, the lights are in place, the camera is in place and they sit me down, get me to sign a release form and then start shooting. This is not how tv usually works. In between takes I turn to a guy beside me and ask him what this thing is for and he tells me the Conservative party. I feel dirty. Of course they have to trick actors into being in their commercials! Even though they paid me I'm voting for you guys."

Does the phrase "Poetic Justice" Mean anything to you Conservatives? They lampooned us because we supposedly couldn't find any "Average Canadians" to be in our commericals, but things are so bad for them they can't even find any Conservatives, average or otherwise to be in theirs!

Is This Their Pathetic Idea of Damage Control?

Stephen Harper came out and criticized the U.S. Ambassador for intervening in the Canadian election today, because his advisors sense of moral (WHAT?!?! -Ed.) obligation told him to.

It's almost like a scene from a movie where the dumb character tells the smart character's girlfriend too much about what they did last night and the smart character is wispering to him shut up man, shut up, you're going to blow it! Same type of deal. With Harper trying to lie his way into the pants of our nation here's the hapless Wilkins saying "Man Stevie, you remember those twins, Jenna and Barbara who were hittin on you last night?"

Oh, who knows what kooky adventures Stevie and Davie will find themselves in next week.

Day 15 Winners:

The Liberals.

After a three day slide the Liberals have drawn back in to a tie with the Conservatives on the L4L Election Day-O-Meter. With the U.S. Ambassador giving the Prime Minister an early christmas present and the Conservatives going overboard (As Jason Cherniak Predicted) on Beerpopgate the Grits had the best day 15.

Liberals 7 (Days 1,3,5,6,10,11,15)
Conservatives 7 (Days 2,4,7,9,12,13,14)
NDP 1 (Day 8)

(P.S. Sorry for being late getting this out, other than an hour to do my two feature articles I've been out shoveling $&*$*@! Snow all bloody day. My thoughts on snow are the following:

The only good thing about snow is one day I'll die and won't have to put up with it anymore.)

Cheers.

Memo to Stephen: We're not Buying it

Of all the places I could find material to point out, for the fourteen billionth time, that Stephen Harper is lying to us through his teeth about his agenda it has to be the Calgary Sun.

Today in an article entitled Stephen Harper sheds more Tory right-wing baggage the Sun unwittingly makes my case that the man is just saying anything to try to get Ontario voters to swing his way.

Realizing he needs to shed still more right-wing baggage, the federal Conservative leader announces yet another conversion to the political centre ... Stephen Harper, the Johnny-come-lately defender of Medicare. No private health care for him. This week, it is Stephen Harper, the better-late-than-never opponent to shipping Canadian troops into the mess of Iraq.

I find it amazing that he can change his mind so quickly on something he was so fundamentally opposed to. Just think about that for a second: Take the one thing you feel strongest about whether it is Same Sex Marriage, or Abortion, or Fiscal policy, or whatever. Do you honestly think you could change your mind on it in one day, with no new evidence or arguments being sent your way?

Of course not, and neither has Harper. All that's happened is he realizes that if he wants to get to 24 Sussex Drive he needs to fool people in to thinking he's recanted his far-right ways. He hasn't had a change of heart; he's had a change of speech.

Yes, when the U.S. of A. was locked and loaded, ready to shock and awe Iraq, the majority sentiment on the opposition side was red, white and blue. Tory Calgary echoed this conviction. Unlike the rest of Canada, here it was semper fi, do or die and gung ho, their country right or wrong. If you didn't sign on, or like 5,000-plus souls who took to the streets in this city in protest, you were an anti-American, Saddam-loving peacenik scum giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Harper and his MPs despised the supposedly cowardly Chrétien who wouldn't stand with the Americans.

There is little that has changed in Calgary since this time, alas the hatred of the Left may have even grown if that's possible. So now Harper is not only fighting a desperate battle to win the affection of the more centrist Ontario voters, he is alienating his own home base in Calgary and even the rest of Alberta. I can't imagine the shock waves being felt there right now over Mr. Harper's rejection of their core values. The polls don't reflect this yet, but the election is still young, and Albertans haven't had a chance to see this new, more moderate Stephen Harper in the debates.

In this case however, no matter what happens it is bad for Stephen Harper. If Albertans start to find themselves with a sour taste in their mouths the Conservatives may lose the one place had counted on as a bastion of support. And if the polls don't change at all it will signal to the rest of the country that Albertans know something we only suspected: Harper hasn't changed a bit.

Think about it, if Stephen Harper moves more to the center and Albertans still support him that means they know he's lying about it, and they'll continue to support him, because they know if his lies succeed in obtaining him ultimate power they'll have a rather nasty bit of long awaited political revenge on their Central and Eastern Canadian neighbors.

Finally, the Sun article ends with this:

No Tory day would be complete without our Ralph. On Friday, the premier promises he'll speak no more of Harper's chances because he's afraid of duct tape. Yesterday, Ralph the rascal peels off the gag and repeats what he's said before. He doesn't like Harper's odds. He's not the only one.

Good news for us all.

US Right Loves Harper, Greens not so Clean After All

I was watching a bit of the CBC last night and they had two great stories on.

The first was about the high amount of admiration the U.S. Right has for Stephen Harper.

And the Second was about the infighting and shadyness that has plaugued the Green Party since Jim Harris took over as leader. For all of you out there thinking about voting Green you may want to watch this and think again.

Conservatives Awfully Cocky in B.C.

Tories say Liberals no Threat in B.C.

I think that's a little bit overconfident.

Duceppe Makes Critical Omission During BSE Announcement

Gilles Duceppe has made what I see as the first losing argument of his campaign yesterday while speaking to Farmers, and if Liberals in Quebec play their cards right they can really score some points against separatism.

Speaking to farmers east of Montreal on Monday, Duceppe said that during the most recent mad cow crisis, Mexico was spared international bans on its beef because it is a separate country from Canada and the United States. Quebec would have been protected in the same way if the province were independent

What he fails to mention is that if somehow the BSE crisis or another of it's kind were to strike Quebec farmers after Quebec had separated, there would be no help coming from the other provinces of Canada; as it did for those ranchers effected by the current situation. (Now we can argue all we want about whether the help was adequate but there was help provided -Ed.) Essentially Quebec would be on its own, left to deal with a crippling economic disaster without any help from its neighbors. That is the fatal flaw of sovereignty and the strength of Federalism.

L4L Debate Coverage

Just to let everyone know, I'm going to be recording the debates and making them available as soon as possible after they are completed in the Video section. I'm looking in to making them available in both English and French but I can't gurantee anything at this point. Obviously because I am an anglophone English is my top priority, but I will try for both.

Also, after I have made the whole debates available I will be sifting through and putting together a highlight reel.

Just to lighten the mood

Harper's "Free Vote" Promise has little significance

Stephen Harper has said that he would allow a free vote in the house on the issue of Same Sex Marriage were he elected Prime Minister. Now of course that sounds good, except when you take in to account that out of the 96 Conservatives who voted on bill C-38 only 3 of them actually voted for it.

It's really easy to say you'll offer a free vote when you know the vast majority of your party's MPs are going to tow the party line. That'd be like if I was a candidate for Prime Minister and said that I would allow a free vote on a bill to increase the salary of MPs.

It's all about the word games with the Conservatives, they use a term like Free Vote and people like how it sounds, of course most of them don't follow politics like I do so they'd have no idea how little it actually meant.

Fear of the Right back

My favorite blog out there by far is Fear of the Right, the guy who writes it, Kyle, just seems to be on the same wavelength as me when it comes to supporting the Liberals and opposing the Tories.

Anyway, he's unearthed an article written by Stephen Harper in 2003 that I wish all Canadians would read.

Check out his article here.

Just as I predicted: We're winning the policy battle

I frequent a few political message boards and when it was decided that the government was going to fall the Conservative supporters were positively glowing with anticipation. They argued that this time was going to be different, this time they were going to bring out policy and erase this hidden agenda business. I advised them that if they were pinning their hopes on winning a policy debate they were going to be disappointed.

And that's exactly what has happened so far.

Just a hair under two weeks in to the campaign the Conservatives have launched an all out onslaught on the policy front, making announcement after announcement every single day, the most noteworthy of them being the GST announcement and the Child Care Scheme. But with their support holding and even in a few polls dropping the strategy thus far doesn't appear to be paying off. The reason for this is Canadians are far more savvy than they used to be when it comes to deconstructing policy. In Canada It used to be like the United States where you could just say "Tax Cut" and it would automatically get you a 5 point bump. Things aren't like that any more, Canadians are the smartest people in the world and we show it by how we respond to the promises our politicians make.

The reason that Conservative support hasn't jumped is simple: The Liberals are offering better ideas, or at least ideas that average Canadians find equal.

This article from the Halifax Chronicle Herald demonstrates the point:

The impact of a Conservative pledge to reduce the GST has been blunted by a Liberal counter-promise to cut personal income taxes, an exhaustive new survey suggests. A sweeping Decima poll offered exclusively to The Canadian Press provided some insight into why the Conservatives remained nine points behind the Liberals in popular support, despite grabbing headlines with splashy announcements in the campaign’s early days...

...The Conservatives’ GST promise has been by far the most-noticed promise of the election campaign, with a whopping 91 per cent of respondents saying they were aware of it. The impact of the announcement was negated somewhat because voters were equally impressed with a Liberal Pre-election promise to cut income taxes by $30 billion ... The same can be said of the Liberals’ 18-month-old plan to invest billions in a national day-care system, which is at least as popular as the new Tory announcement of cheques for parents.

Now, of course things can change. The debates are coming up this week and they could really shift public support out of the ranges it's been in since the 2004 election. In my view however, the Liberals have the advantage when it comes to policy, simply because of experience. The Liberals have been in power for twelve years now, they've been working on policy for all that time. They know the system, they know the electorate, and most importantly they know what they can and can not afford.

How I wish something would be done about cybersquatting

For those of you who don't know what Cyber Squatting is click here

Some of you may have read about David Bedford, an ardent NDP supporter who purchased domain names similar to police department websites and re-directed them to the NDP website.

After the controversy this caused Bedford has changed the site you end up at to this Anti Stephen Harper page.

Now, I'm about as opposed to Stephen Harper as anyone could be, but my opinion is what this guy is doing is wrong. Cyber Squatting is a huge nuisance and laws should be enacted to deal with it. Nothing so serious as throwing the perpetrator in jail or anything, but allowing the domains to be seized from the registrar.

You'll have to forgive me if this article is a bit off my usual quality, I'm feeling a bit under the weather today. Also my main computer screen broke so I'm having to use my crappy backup which gives me headaches.

I've been honored

I've just discovered that I've been enshrined in a very select group. My blog has been singled out for an honor that is reserved only for those very elite, upper echelon members of the blogging community. It's both a shock and a privilege to be chosen for this highly prestigious honor and I would like to thank all of you for making it happen.....

.....What am I talking about you ask? You're thinking to yourself "He didn't win the Canadian Blog Awards, he wasn't mentioned by Antonia Zerbisias, he wasn't chosen by CTV to be one of their bloggers, so what is he talking about?

What I'm talking about my dear friends is I've been named one of the "Regressive Idiots" by AlbertaAvenue.

I'd like to thank the Academy, my father, my brother, my girlfriend Lisa, (WE DID IT BABY!) My cat, and all of you readers and peers who helped make this happen. *sniff* Damn it I promised myself I wouldn't cry.

Now some of you may be wondering why I consider this such an honor. It's simple mathematics. He called me regressive, and he supports one of the most regressive parties on Earth. So it's like when you learned negative multiplication: A negative by a negative equals a positive. So if someone who as I've said before supports a party with highly antiquated social policy thinks I'm regressive I must be one of the most Progressive people on the planet.

I also think it's hilarious that his idea of revenge is to put a link up to my site. Hey thanks for the traffic man!

I think he might need a stint in my forum's Flame Wars room just to let off some steam before his head explodes.

Edit: I just read this on his Technorati profile and had to include it. It's hilarious:

This is the profile of the real Werner Patels. There is an imposter and criminal who has set up a Technorati profile in my name (this is a criminal offence and will be investigated by the RCMP). So if you want to get the facts, visit this profile.

ROFL! This guy is definatly worth the price of admission.

We Losers need to stick together

If you entered the 2005 Canadian Blog Awards and lost show your solidarity with your fellow losers by putting this pic on your blog. :D

Help Wanted

I'm looking for article contributers here at Liberal For Life. With the election campaign on it seems like there aren't enough hours in the day to get done everything I would like to get done.

Just a note before I go further, you'd email your posts in to the blog and I'd proofread them and post them myself. (Of course giving you credit) So for any yahoos out there licking their lips thinking they can lie and then get a chance to spam my blog, sorry think again.

Anyway, it'd be an informal thing. Anyone who decides to contribute wouldn't be forced to make so many posts a day or anything like that, just do as many as you can handle. I sometimes do 5 or 6 a day, but 1 a day or every couple of days is fine.

A couple of ground rules.
- You'd have to support the Liberal party. (Obviously)
- You'd have to be willing to have your posts edited slightly. (I'm a perfectionist when it comes to how something sounds in the readers mind.)

If you are interested either click the contact button and email me, or leave a comment to this post.

Rob Anders has a twin

Major hat tip to Koby for this heads-up.

In a December 6th Vancouver 24 Hours story New Westminster-Burnaby-Coquitlam Conservative MP Paul Forseth has once again illustrated the far right, radical thinking prevelant in today's Conservative Party.

In a letter sent to some constituents in November, Forseth argues that recently passed legislation allowing same-sex marriages is leading to the "moral breakdown of society." But Forseth doesn't stop there. Oh no. Giving people the right to legally marry whoever they love is not only causing a moral meltdown, it is also threatening to destroy our economy! "The family has always been the backbone of prosperity of any country ... we need only look at history to prove that. Does the breakdown of the family in Canada concern me? Yes - greatly!" Forseth writes. "Traditionally, Canadians are God-loving, family people with traditional values," he continues, apparently believing that only straight folks can create jobs, hold religious beliefs or even have families.

None of us should be suprised. The sad thing is there is still a substantial portion of the population out there that thinks this is all a smear campaign by the Liberals; as if they all got together, kidnapped the Conservative MPs and brainwashed them in to saying this stuff.
